The mountain biking in the immediate area around Gunnison consists of trails that wind through hills of sage and rock.
There are a large number of challenging trails at Hartman’s Rocks, located just south of Gunnison airport. There is also a NORBA sanctioned race - "Rage in the Sage" - that takes place every spring at Hartman’s.
Hartman’s is the main local area to ride singletrack and more challenging trails. Local bike shops have guides to the trails of Hartman’s. There’s also lots to explore on the dirt roads of the valleys surrounding Gunnison.
If you’re looking for a more alpine mountain biking experience, also check out the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Guide.
